Both valid points. Take this with a grain of salt since I did argue for Cabrera, but the off-field issues don't bother me. For all we know, he's been drinking and playing hungover/partially drunk for years and he's still been one of the most consistent hitters in the league.

The lineup is a concern, though. I like the potential of the guys in front of Cabrera (Sizemore and Jackson), but it is just that: potential. Thanks for commenting.

I object! One key piece was left out of this argument. While the on-field argument was well laid out, the off-field argument was left completely off. Last we saw of Mr. Cabrera he was coming off an arrest of spousal abuse while blowing a .26, well after taking his last drink. There were rumors floating not long after the season was over of the Tigers shopping him around and that my Red Sox were interested (at that time). I proudly declared do not trade for this man until at least a week on Dr. Phil's show and at least one appearance on Oprah's couch! To get back to the argument, I would take Fielder hands down. I like the hitters around Fielder a LOT better than the Tigers this year.

Haha I agree Longoria might be a better option than either of these guys, but for the purpose of this series (which you'll see many more articles in) we're looking at two players of similar value at the same position.

I also wouldn't call the drop after Arod and Longoria "drastic." Wright, Zimmerman, and Reynolds all offer good production as well. I'm not saying they're as good as Arod and Longoria because they aren't, but they're all players I'd have no problem putting on my team.

If it comes to my turn in the draft and these two guys are available... I'm taking... EVAN LONGORIA. There will still be plenty of 1B around for the next few rounds, but frankly the only true "elite" 3B are in the first round. The drop after Arod and Longoria is drastic enough to really take this into consideration.
But if Longo is gone, and I have to decide between these guys... gonna half to go Miggy. I understand the arguement for Fielder, but I can't word this in any other way: I THINK MIGGY IS AWESOME.
